Playboy Philippines launches on April 2nd at the Hotel Sofitel in Pasay City, and its editor in chief, Beting Laygo Dolor, insists that the first issue is a “good read”, even if it does not feature any nudity. Circulation for Playboy magazine has declined internationally, with stiff (no pun intended) competition from FHM and Maxim. He is touting Playboy Philippines is a “lifestyle magazine for mature, successful men and women”.
This is the 25th international edition of the popular men’s magazine, which debuted more than 50 years ago. The Philippine edition of Playboy will have its own version of “playmate of the month” and it will feature articles and fictional stories by some of the country’s renowned writers.
The Philippines is mostly Roman Catholic, and watchdog groups have even filed criminal charges against those affiliated with movies and publications that show nudity, which is probably a big reason why Playboy Philippines did not go the raunchier route. Sorry guys!
