2009 Pinoy Showbiz Predictions: Angel Locsin Will Regain Stardom, Marian Rivera's Falldown, and Other Showbiz Hula

Psychic and Feng Shui Consultant Madame Suzette Arandela predicts that Angel Locsin will have a brighter 2009 ahead of her.

"Babalik ang dating ningning ng kanyang bituin. Makakabawi ang kanyang career ngayong 2009." Madam Suzette shares to Abante-Tonite.

When it comes to her lovelife, Angel will also have a stable relationship with current boyfriend Luis Manzano.

How about this year's hottest star - Marian Rivera?

According to Madam Suzette, if Marian (who was involved with so many intrigues this year) will not change her attitude, her career in 2009 will just be average.

"Kapag hindi nagbago ang attitude niya, magiging average lang ang kanyang career sa 2009. Malamang na mag-slow down ang kanyang career dahil sa kanyang ugali. May isang babaing sisikat ngayong 2009 na masasapawan siya.” she said.

On People's Taliba, it has also been reported that Marian Rivera's career in 2009 will not be as lucky as in 2008.

Other predictions, according to Madame Suzette, includes reconciliation between Sam Milby and Anne Curtis, blockbuster movie for KC Concepcion and Richard Gutierrez, another woman in between James Yap and Kris Aquino, health problems for Joey De Leon and Willie Revillame, more awards for Anne Curtis and Bea Alonzo might get pregnant if becomes careless.

Here are Madame Suzette's predictions for 2009 on some other showbiz personalities:

Magkakaroon ng regular TV show. Maghi-hit ang pelikula nila ni Richard (When I Met You).

JC DE VERA: "Mas aangat pa ang career this 2009.

BEA ALONZO: "May poor health problem. Mai-inlove sa isang non-showbiz guy,
pero mag-ingat at baka mabuntis."

ABS-CBN Denies 'Twilight' Local TV Adaptation

ABS-CBN said there is no truth to the rumor that they are doing a local television version of the hit novel and movie 'Twilight'.

Last week, abs-cbnnews.com reported the local television adaptation but according to ABS-CBN Corporate Communications’ Bong Osorio "There is no truth to the Web reports, particularly in the Perez Hilton blogsite, that ABS-CBN is doing a local adaptation of Twilight. ABS-CBN will be the first to announce if it is, in fact doing so."

The so-called local television adaptation was supposed to be called 'Takipsilim' with Shaina Magdayao and Rayver Cruz as the lead stars. According to the report by abscbnnews.com, the rights for the tv remake of Twilight was bought by ABS-CBN for the price of 1 million US Dollars with Ignite Media as co-producer.

It was also mentioned in the article that the taping of Takipsilim will begin in February 2009 with Cathy Garcia-Molina as the director.

After the rumor was published in the popular Perez Hilton blog, Twilight fans all over the world reacted negatively with 7,600 entries in the petition against the Filipino version of the vampire film.

Fil-Am Michael Copon to Play Jacob Black in Twilight’s Sequel 'New Moon'

Fil-Am actor Michael Copon is reportedly replacing Taylor Lautner for the role of werewolf Jacob Black in the highly anticipated sequel of the box-office hit Twilight entitled “New Moon.”

The Twilight sequel has a new director following news that 53-year-old Catherine Hardwicke had been axed and replaced by Golden Compass helmsman Chris Weitz for New Moon.

Now, another replacement is about to happen. 15-year-old actor Taylor Lautner won’t be reprising his role as the werewolf Jacob Black in favor of the Filipino-American actor and model Michael Copon.

Michael is probably best known for his role in the tv series One Tree Hill and the movies Scorpion King 2 and Elevator. The Fil-Am actor was also the grand winner of VH1’s reality competition “But Can They Sing?”

Also lobbying for a New Moon role is Spanish actor Ben Barnes, best known for his title role in this year’s Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The 27-year-old is said to be eyeing the role of the mind-reading vampire Aro.

Filming on New Moon is scheduled to begin in February 2009.

Youtube and international singing sensation Charice Pempengco has topped Google's list of Top 10 Most Searched Celebrities in the Philippines for 2008. Followed by another Youtube star and Journey lead vocalist Arnel Pineda.

This year's hottest and controversial Kapuso star Marian Rivera ranked 10th. But this time, Marian has scored higher than Angel Locsin, who was the most searched female actress in the Philippines last year.

ASAP That's Christmas

ASAP '08 stars prepared and performed a very special Christmas presentation called 'That's Christmas' which was the show's Christmas gift offering to its loyal televiewers.

The concept of the presentation was based on ABS-CBN's core values like teamwork, camaraderie, teaching, learning, and a true quality bonding experience amongst the stars of ABS-CBN.

ASAP ‘08 stars were divided into three groups to perform ala “That’s Entertainment” style.

Group 1 decided to perform a 60’s inspired “Hair Spray” presentation with a twist - the guys played a female role and the girls played the male role. They danced to the tune of Low and Disturbia. The group composed of John Prats, Shaina Magdayao, Sheryn Regis, Rafael Rosell, Zanjoe Marudo, Gabs Valenciano, Toni Gonzaga, and Gary Valenciano among others.

Group 2 was led by Vhong Navarro. They performed the Michael Jackson hits. This group was composed of Sam Milby, Christian Bautista, Sarah Geronimo, Gerald Anderson, Anne Curtis, Erik Santos, Rayver Cruz, Jericho Rosales, and Vina Morales.

Group 3 was headed by Billy Crawford. They performed a school-movie musicals inspired number. To complete the group were Piolo Pascual, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Karylle, Mark Bautista, Maja Salvador, Kim Chiu, Nikki Gil, Ronnie Liang, Arnel Pineda, Melissa Ricks, Jed Madela and John Lloyd Cruz.

Group 3 was declared the winner, at the end of the show.

"I Wanna Die!" - Anne Curtis, on Her Very First Acting Award

Another Kapamilya actress has received her first Best Actress award after Angel Locsin had it last month.

If Angel proudly uttered "Aktres na ako!" on her acceptance speech, Anne said "It's my first acting award! I wanna die!"

Anne Curtis, female lead of Viva Films' Baler, was adjudged Best Festival Actress in the 34th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) Awards Night held last Saturday night, December 27, 2008 at the Harbor Tent, Sofitel Hotel in Pasay City.

In Baler, Anne essayed the role of Feliza Reyes, a young, sweet and wholesome Filipina who fell in love with a Fil-Spanish soldier played by Jericho Rosales.

Anne competed against other worthy contenders such as Ai-Ai delas Alas for Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat, Dawn Zulueta for Magkaibigan, and Marian Rivera for Shake, Rattle & Roll X.

Baler took home a total of 10 awards including Best Picture, Best Director and the much coveted Gatpuno Antonio J. Villegas Cultural Award.

2008 Hollywood Teen Queens

A decade ago, the Spice Girls championed "girl power," and in 2008 a slew of talented young ladies seemed to take that message to heart. From Miley and Demi to Dakota and Kristen, teen girls ruled the charts as well as the big and small screens. Here, we look back at the young women who made this the year of the teen queens.

Miley Cyrus
In 2008, Miley survived the controversies of a couple of photo shoots; turned 16 and threw herself a huge bash; found love with an underwear model; and managed to do it all while acting in a few hit movies, getting nominated for a VMA and a Golden Globe, starring in a successful TV show and putting out a hit album.

Taylor Swift
She came on the scene singing about a boy named Drew in her VMA-nominated song "Teardrops on My Guitar," and she finished the year releasing a million-plus-selling record, Fearless, and singing about a more famous ex-love interest, Joe Jonas. The 19-year-old doesn't like being called a crossover artist, but she has definitely crossed over from being an up-and-coming country singer to a full-fledged pop star who isn't afraid to share her feelings about the guys she's dated. Maybe in 2009 she can finally make that hip-hop collaboration happen.

Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale
They may play frenemies in a trio of wildly popular Disney movies, but thanks to the success of the third installment of "High School Musical," both Hudgens and Tisdale are willing to let bygones be bygones as they graduate from their onscreen personas, Gabriella and Sharpay. These two have also managed to find time to have careers in music and shoot non-"HSM" movies set for release in 2009.

Demi Lovato
"Camp Rock" introduced everyone to Demi Lovato, who somehow managed to go from being "the next Miley Cyrus" to being the one and only Demi in just a few months. Her album, Don't Forget, made a splash on the charts, debuting at #2, and she got to work on her upcoming Disney Channel sitcom, "Sonny With a Chance," set to air in 2009. She also hooked up with fellow teen queen Selena Gomez for the movie "Princess Protection Program," but she swears she's never kissed a Jonas Brother. Miley who?

Selena Gomez
She plays a wizard on the Disney Channel, and for this 16-year-old, 2008 was magic. Selena talked about starting a band, and then she stirred the pot when she accidentally revealed to MTV News plans for a "Wizards of Waverly Place" movie. She made a cameo in the Jonas Brothers video for "Burnin' Up" and then reportedly found time to date the youngest JoBro, Nick. On top of all that, Selena and BFF Demi fended off rumors of a feud with Miley.

Dakota Fanning
Dakota Fanning has grown up right before our eyes. Now the Jodie Foster-approved actress is seamlessly making the transition from kid star to grown-up thespian. Despite some controversy for her role in "Hounddog," Fanning made her way back on the scene in "The Secret Life of Bees" and "Winged Creatures." The latter co-stars Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson, who can't stop singing the actress' praises. Miranda Cosgrove
She may not have had the chops to join the band in 2003's "School of Rock," but she somehow managed to find her voice on Nickelodeon, singing the theme to her hit show "iCarly." On the program, Cosgrove's character has her own successful Web show, and like so many performers of her generation, Cosgrove spent part of 2008 working on an album, poising herself to jump on the singing-actress bandwagon.

Emma Roberts
You may know her dad, Eric, or her Aunt Julia, but Emma is out to make it on her own. She's had her own "Unfabulous" TV show, and she played Nancy Drew on the big screen. In 2008, she was busy shooting movies, so her hard work should pay off next year, when we'll see her in "The Winning Season" and "Hotel for Dogs."

Kristen Stewart
Playing "Twilight" heroine Bella has put this indie-film star on the map. She's become a hero to young girls everywhere with her quiet onscreen persona. And her real-life relaxed attitude is landing Stewart in some big roles for 2009: She's been tapped to play rocker Joan Jett in the Runaways biopic, and of course, she and Robert Pattinson will be heating up theaters again in the "Twilight" sequel, "New Moon," on November 20.

Jordin Sparks
The singer was nominated for a VMA for her track "No Air" (with Chris Brown), and she placed herself right in the middle of the Russell-Brand-versus-Jonas-Brothers purity-rings scandal of 2008 by declaring her abstinence in the middle of the live broadcast. "No Air" earned a Grammy nod too, so we may get a chance to see the "American Idol" winner's feisty side onstage come February.

2008 Person of the Year

TIME Magazine introduces 2008's Person of the Year. See below who made it to the prestige list:

1. Barack Obama
In one of the craziest elections in American history, he overcame a lack of experience, a funny name, two candidates who are political institutions and the racial divide to become the 44th President of the United States. (Click here to know why TIME chose Obama)

2. Henry Paulson
When he arrived in Washington as Secretary of the Treasury in the summer of 2006, Henry M. (Hank) Paulson Jr.'s top priority was to make certain that his department would have independence and clout. If he was giving up the top job at Goldman Sachs, he wasn't doing it for a sinecure. (Read full article here)

3. Nicolas Sarkozy
There are times when Nicolas Sarkozy resembles a force of nature rather than a conventional political leader. He has energy, ideas and vitality in abundance, as he showed in such matters as his handling of the Georgia crisis and the global economic downturn. Of course, as with any new leader, 18 months — Nicolas was elected President of France in May 2007 — is insufficient time to make a final judgment. But certain elements are already clear. (Read full article here)

4. Sarah Palin

In the beginning, she winked. "I was just your average hockey mom," she told us by way of introduction, which was a charming diversion from the reality of the most astonishing political debut in modern times. Sarah Palin did indeed show she could play politics as a contact sport; her motherhood did become central to her message. But average? Not in your wildest dreams. (Read full article here)

5. Zhang Yimou

On the eighth day of the eighth month of 2008, 2 billion TV viewers and thousands in attendance in the now famous Bird's Nest were treated to an unforgettable spectacle at the opening ceremonies of the Beijing Olympic Games. (Read full article here)

2. Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon eloped at Carey's private estate on Windemere Island in the Bahamas on April 30, 2008. Their marriage caught many by surprise, since they hadn't been seen in public together very often prior.

3. Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson tied the knot in an "Alice in Wonderland"-themed wedding at the Simpson family home on May 28, 2008.

4. Jessica Alba married Cash Warren on May, 19, 2008, while she was eight months pregnant with his child. The two met on the set of "Fantastic Four" in 2004.

5. Charlie Sheen wed Brooke Mueller, wife no. 3, on May 30, 2008. Charlie divorced Denise Richards in 2006, but they continue to feud very bitterly in public.

6. Ruben Studdard wed Surata Zuri McCants outside his hometown of Birmingham, Alabama on June 28, 2008. The "American Idol" winner did not serenade his bride during the ceremony, leaving the music to a string ensemble.

7. Country singer Jewel wrangled up professional bull rider Ty Murray in matrimony on August 7, 2008. The couple married in the Bahamas after ten years together.

8. The California Supreme Court ruled that the ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional in May, legalizing gay and lesbian marriages. After going back and forth on having a large, star-studded wedding, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi decided on an intimate ceremony at their Beverly Hills home. The two were wed in front of 19 guests on August 16, 2008.

9. Deborah Lin wed "Sopranos" star James Gandolfini in her native Hawaii on August 30, 2008. Talk about being married to the mob!

10. George Takei married Brad Altman, his partner of 21 years, on September 14, 2008. Takei's "Star Trek" costar Walter Koenig ("Chekov") was his best man, and Nichelle Nichols ("Uhura") was the Matron of Honor.

11. Shock jock Howard Stern showed off her softer side while romancing model Beth Ostrosky. The two wed on October 3, 2008 at Le Cirque restaurant in New York City.

2008 Hollywood Top 10 Entertainment Stories

Heath Ledger’s death was voted 2008’s top entertainment story by US newspaper and broadcast editors surveyed by The Associated Press.

The Top 10:

1. HEATH LEDGER DIES: When the Australian actor was found dead Jan. 22 at 28, shock and confusion over the circumstances of his death followed. The autopsy concluded Ledger’s death was accidental, the result of a toxic combination of prescription drugs. His legacy continued, though, in a roundly acclaimed performance as the Joker in the year’s biggest box office hit “The Dark Knight.”

2. WRITERS STRIKE ENDS: The Writers Guild of America took to the picket lines Nov. 5 of last year. The strike played havoc on the industry, from award shows to network TV schedules, and didn’t conclude until Feb. 12. When an agreement was finally reached, the Academy Awards were saved and scripted television slowly returned to the airwaves.

3. BOFFO BOX OFFICE FOR “DARK KNIGHT”: As the release of Christopher Nolan’s second Batman installment “The Dark Knight” neared, anticipation over Ledger’s performance mounted. The film went on to gross $528 million domestically, second all-time only to “Titanic.” Unlike most blockbusters, it also appeared on many critics’ top 10 lists.

4. POLITICAL COMEDY SHINES: The long campaign was highlighted by late-night hosts (David Letterman chastising John McCain for missing his scheduled guest appearance), satire veterans (Tina Fey’s Sarah Palin impression on “Saturday Night Live”) and new media sensations (”Obama Girl”). “SNL,” “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report” all charted their best ratings.

5. BRITNEY SPEARS’ DOWNWARD SPIRAL: Though by year’s end Spears had rebounded with a new album and successful TV appearances, her 2008 started at a low point. After a custody dispute with Kevin Federline, Spears was hospitalized and held for psychiatric evaluation. The chaos eventually subsided and in November she released the aptly titled album “Circus.”

6. PAUL NEWMAN DIES: Newman, one of the most beloved actors of the 20th century, died Sept. 26 at 83 after a fight with lung cancer at his longtime home in Westport, Conn. In the days after, tributes were paid to the charismatic actor in his various worlds: theater, movies, auto racing and philanthropy.

7. TV NETWORKS EMBRACE THE WEB: Online video turned pro in 2008. Networks increasingly embraced the Web, making many of their most popular shows available to stream online. News Corp. and NBC Universal banded together to created Hulu.com, while ABC and CBS continued to beef up their sites.

8. GEORGE CARLIN DIES: The truth-telling comedian — widely considered one of the greatest ever — died June 22 at 71. “He was more than just a comic,” said Paul Rodriguez. “His routines became part of the American lexicon.”

9. TIM RUSSERT DIES: Reaction to the unexpected June 13 death of Tim Russert at 58 was widespread and felt throughout Washington by Republicans and Democrats. Tom Brokaw delivered the news live on NBC, and would later temporarily take Russert’s spot on “Meet the Press.” David Gregory recently became the full-time moderator for the show, the longest-running on TV.

10. JENNIFER HUDSON’S FAMILY TRAGEDY: Days after the release of her film “The Secret Life of Bees,” tragedy befell the family of the “American Idol” finalist. Her mother, brother and nephew were killed in a shooting at their Chicago home. Police have charged William Balfour, the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia, with the murders.

Karylle versus Marian: The True Story

The Buzz aired a special report entitled “Karylle Versus Marian” highlighting the controversial issue of the year.

It was very clever of Boy Abunda, or the writer of The Buzz for that matter, when he asked Karylle if Marian is pregnant. That’s when the love triangle controversy between Karylle, Dingdong Dantes and Marian exploded. In a span of one week, it became the biggest news in pinoy showbizlandia. And the Buzz made a special report chronicling the issue as it started on their show last Monday, to the Desperadas 2 press conference (when Marian Rivera broke into tears) to interviews on the stars involved.

The videos below presented both sides with special emphasis about the negative perception of the press towards Marian Rivera. It was pointed out that the hottest kapuso star is perceived as “gimikera”, “magaspang ang ugali” and “paawa effect.”

But during the show's POV segment, hosts Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino, and Ruffa Gutierrez made their remarks coming from a very reliable sources - Kris as bestfriend to Marian's manager Popoy Caritativo, and Ruffa as Marian's co-star in the movie Desperadas 2 and also present during the presscon where Marian answered the pregnancy issue.

Ang Tanging Ina N'yong Lahat Predicted to Top 2008 MMFF

The first Tanging Ina movie was a certified blockbuster that broke all box-office records, installing Ai-Ai de las Alas as Box-Office Queen five years ago.

What happened to everybody’s "ina" since then?

"The concept of this Tanging Ina movie actually began taking shape five years ago," said direk Wenn. "There was a demand for a sequel. Many people were wondering and asking whatever happened to ‘ina’ after all that she has been through, single-handedly raising a dozen kids by different men."

Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat is predicted to top the 2008 Metro Filmfest and a shoo-in for awards.

Except fort Heart Evangelista, the latest addition to the Tanging Ina franchise retains the original cast including Carlo Aquino, Alwyn Uytingco (the bading member of the family), Shaina Magdayao, Serena Dalrymple, Jiro Manio, Yuki Kadaoka, and Bianca and Janelle Calma.

"So what happened to ‘ina’ and her children after all these years?," added direk Wenn. "Some of her children have gone abroad, some are leading stable lives, all of them are successful."

Left almost alone, “ina” thinks of a way that will make her children even more proud of her. Because her children don’t need her anymore, “ina” embarks on a journey once again that leads her to, hold your breath, MalacaƱang Palace as Ina ng Bayan, proving to one and all that she can be a beloved president just as she is as a mother.

But in the long run, “ina” is faced with a dilemma: To continue being “ina” to millions of Filipinos or to simply be the “ina” of her own children?

Said Ai-Ai (who also starred in one “ina” movie in-between, Cute ng Ina Mo which was also a hit), "The movie is for every member of the family — para sa mga tatay, sa mga nanay, sa mga anak, sa mga kamag-anak, sa lahat! Doing it is even harder than doing the first one or the one in-between. What inspired me, direk Wenn and other members of the cast is the thought na lalabas ang lahat sa sinehan na may mga ngiti sa labi at tuwang-tuwa."

Opening on Dec. 25, Ang Tanging Ina N’yong Lahat also stars Eugene Domingo still as Rowena, the looney best friend of “ina.” The new members of the cast are DJ Durano, John Prats and Gloria Diaz as Pres. Hilarry.
