Demi Sorono, the 28-year-old Filipina B-girl (break dancer) is one of the Final 4 in the first Australia's version of So You Think You Can Dance.
Two other pinoys who made it to the Top 20 are jazz dancer Rhiannon Villareal and hip hop dancer Joel "J.D." de Carteret, but were voted off as the show progresses. J.D. was eliminated in the final 12 episode while Rhiannon was eliminated in the final 8.
Despite lack of training in any dance styles except for street styles such as B-boying, popping, locking, house and new jack, she still made the judges and the voting public impressed when she danced tha samba, contemporary, boogaloo, jazz, rumba and pop.
Demi’s partner in the first half of the season was broadway and funk dancer Jack Chambers. The two never landed in the bottom 3 until now. There are some buzz that Jack Chambers is leading the popularity vote to win the title but Demi has her Filipino-Australians rooting for her.
Aside from Demi and Jack, Rhys Bobridge and Kate Wormald also made it to the finals. The four will compete for the title of Australia’s Favorite Dancer on April 27, 2008.
