PHILVOLCS Director Warns of Upcoming Strong Earthquake in The Philippines

After strong earthquakes hit Japan and New Zealand, PHILVOLCS Director Renato Solidum Jr. said the Philippines is next.

Although this is not the highest opening record for Sarah Geronimo whose film “You Changed My Life” opened with a whopping P97.89-M in 2009, it’s a different story for Gerald Anderson.

Jason Ivler Getting VIP Treatment in Quezon City Jail?

Is murder suspect Jason Ivler enjoying the company of women and having drinking sessions inside the Quezon City jail?

This question was raised after photos and video clips circulated online showing Ivler partying, with liquor and unidentified women present inside the jail.

Some of the photos show Ivler, who is accused of killing Renato Victor Ebarle Jr. in 2009, with his family.

However, other photos and video clips show him having a drinking session with people, including women.

The Ebarle family’s lawyer, Atty. Amelita Garayblas, said the incidents violate jail regulations.

"We were very much suprised because an inmate... can enjoy such perks in his cell," she said.

Prosecutors believe that the photos and video footage show that Ivler is receiving special treatment inside the jail.

They are now asking the court to order the transfer of Ivler to the Bicutan detention center at Camp Bagong Diwa.

Marlene Aguilar-Pollard, Ivler's mother, on the other hand, defended his son.

Marlene described the jail as a “party place” and claimed that the practice regularly happens in other detention centers in the country.

"Kultura na po ng jail iyan sa Pilipinas [It's jail culture in the Philippines]," she said.

She said gang members inside jail invite his son to join them in parties.

Hari ng selda ang anak ko! Mga Sputnik, Bahala Na Gang, laging inaaya ang anak ko. Sikat na sikat siya doon. Pina-tattoo pa nila mukha ng anak ko sa katawan nila,” she claimed.

She also described his son as "Jason Ivler ng Bayan."

Aguilar-Pollard added that “busloads of women” regularly visit his son.

"Kung ano man ang binebentang treatment doon, kahit sex pa iyon, I'll pay for it," she added.

Quezon City jail authorities have yet to comment on the issue.

Analisa Hegyesi, Ferdinand Marcos' Australian Daughter Axed From Reality Show 'The Renovators' After Revealing Her Father's Identity

Late Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos' Australian daughter Analisa Hegyesi is claiming that she was removed from the Australian home makeover reality show The Renovators after she told the producers her father's identity last week.

The 40-year-old interior designer told The Daily Telegraph UK that she made it to the final cut after months of auditioning only to be removed after revealing her father was Marcos. "The thing is that I've had to juggle my business and clients to make time for the show after I was asked to audition and then chosen from hundreds of people around Australia."

She added, "I was chosen on my own merits but then I was dropped due to aspects of my private life which I will not discuss... I was told there was a fear, too, attention would be paid to me and not the show and other contestants."

The Daily Telegraph UK cited an insider at the production company Shine Australia (producer of Junior Masterchef Australia) who said the staff thought it was harsh and unfair to axe Hegyesi for the "the sins of her father." Meanwhile, a spokesperson for Channel 10, which will air The Renovators, said Hegyesi's removal was routine and that they have not finalized the cast.

Hegyesi was born to former Sydney swimwear and Playboy model Evelin Hegyesi, who was involved with Marcos in the 1970s, when the late strongman already had three children with wife Imelda. The model was 19 when she met Marcos.

In 2004, Hegyesi and her mother were accused of having ties to Marcos' secret bank accounts in Switzerland and Liechtenstein that supposedly contained ill-gotten wealth.

‘Face to Face’ Marks 1st Year, Plans To Do More Public Service

Apart from reiterating that the aim of her show is not to scandalize viewers but to serve as platform for guests to vent their feelings, “Face to Face” host Amy Perez reveals that more work awaits off cam.

The guests undergo counseling right after the show then we follow-up on their progress a few weeks later. It’s not as if we just want them to exchange heated words and try to assault each other publicly for our ratings,” she said during the press conference for the show’s first year anniversary.

Amy, as with the Trio Tagapayo - lawyers Persida Acosta and Ben Persida, priests Sonny Merida and Gerry Tapiador, and psychiatrist Camille Caces-Garcia - pointed out that when guests relieve their experiences, others learn from the mistakes. This, they say, is evidenced in the messages the show’s Facebook account gets daily.

The guests are not given talent fees. Rather, they get an honorarium to cover their food and travel expense for the day.

So, to people who say that the show is scripted… I don’t think anyone would be willing to memorize lines and act combative on air for such a trifle,” said Amy.

Infidelity is the most common problem their guests have and Amy admits getting bothered when people question her credibility as relationship adviser given that her marriage to South Border ex-front man Brix Ferraris, bombed.

People don’t know that every time the topic turns to bigamy, adultery… parang ako, gusto kong lumubog sa lupa because I am in that situation."

For five days starting April 4, “Face to Face” will have special episodes that feature the next talk-of-the-town stories, major confrontations, tear-jerking revelations, infidelity caught on-cam, and a grand wedding spectacle.

The last, Amy said, everyone on the show wanted to do because they feel that is what the show is about, anyway: Happy ending for everyone, as much as possible.

Let’s not forget that after the catfights, the threatening words, the hurt and the tears, many, in fact, patch up their differences. We offer solutions most of the times---and that’s really the beauty of the show,” Amy said.

The anniversary week also highlights “Abot-Kamay, Kapatid,” a gift-giving segment for the benefit of past case subjects. Amy said that in the coming year, they want to further the public service thrust of the show by trying to find sponsors who will give some of the guests the chance to learn how to make a living, thus, truly start their lives all over again.

We are for empowering people,” Amy quipped.

According to the release, data from Nielsen Media Research from March 1 to 23 indicate that “Face to Face” is still the most watched program in Mega Manila on its timeslot (10:30-11:30 a.m.), with 30% audience share versus GMA’s 28% and ABS-CBN’s 25%.

The success of the show has spun-off to a TV series titled “Untold Stories Mula sa Face to Face,” which reenact more of the details behind the most remarkable stories tackled on “Face to Face.”

What’s The Story Behind the Younghusbands’ Surname?

When they were younger, Azkals star players Phil Younghusband and James Younghusband were often teased about their surname.

"It could have originated from England or New Zealand. I am not sure about the details of our surname's origin though we've heard different stories," Phil says during the sidelines of the one-day VSO Bahaginan Expo.

The football sibling were named "ambassadors of volunteering," having started the Younghusband Football Academy to teach kids about football and develop values through the sport.

"As kids people used to laugh at us or make fun of us. It (our surname) used to make us sad but now it's a good conversation icebreaker," adds Phil.

A quick Web search shows little information about the origin of the surname Younghusband. Data available online include census records and the number of families carrying the name.

According to Onegreatfamily.com, one family with the surname Younghusband was recorded pre-1500s; the surname was carried by 129 families in the 1700s. However, only 61 families were recorded in 1800s and only 28 since 1900s.

Citing compiled records by the US Federal Census, there were at least six families carrying the surname Younghusband in 1920, who resided in the states of Iowa, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Illinois.

A search on Familysearch.org shows a certain James Younghusband was included in the US Social Security Death Index on April 1929.

In the United Kingdom, as with other places, surnames were generally derived either from the father's first name, based on the locality or residence (such as "Cliff" taken from someone who lives near a stiff hill), occupation (such as "Wagner" for wagon maker) and nicknames such as "Armstrong" for someone who has strong arms, according to an article by Kathi Reid.

In local dialect, Younghusband is literally translated to "batang asawa" but the brothers both denied getting married soon.

"We cannot say now (when we will settle down) but it depends also when our mom says okay," says James, who admits he has a girlfriend who is also football player.

He adds that people people often use their surname as a conversation piece. Some have called them, "Young-handsome."

Nonetheless, the brothers are happy about their surname's strong recall.

"It's a name that sticks in your head and we are very proud of it. We will continue to honor that name by having a good reputation, How we conduct ourselves, according to our mom, is very important," says Phil.

Their father's name is Philip James Younghusband, so technically Phil is the "junior." Their grandmother decided to name the other one James also after their dad's name.

The brothers plan to spend their month-long break from football in the country. For the summer, Phil says he plans to listen to more OPM or Filipino songs.

"We are proud of our name and we want to continue to have a good image and that is important as role models to the youth," he says.

Camille Villar To Host TV5's “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” With Paolo Bediones and Tessa Prieto-Valdez?

Senator Manny Villar's daughter, Camille Villar, is being eyed by TV5 to become one of the hosts of the first Asian version of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.”

Although the offer is very tempting and the concept of the show is similarly related to their family business, Camille is still undecided whether she'll take on the project or not. And even if she does, she would have to secure the Senator's approval as she holds an executive position in one of the family's real estate companies.

As of this writing, the two other hosts who are sure to be part of the reality show are Paolo Bediones and socialite Tessa Prieto-Valdez.

“Exteme Makeover: Home Edition” is one of the most successful and talked-about reality TV shows by Endemol (also the producer of Big Brother). The show, which is already on its 8th season this year, is being broadcast in 185 countries including the USA.

TV5 will run 12 episodes of “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” and will be aired as a monthly special.

Helen Mirren is The No-Nonsense Nanny To “Arthur”

Warner Bros.’ new comedy “Arthur” brings the inspired pairing of charismatic British comedian Russell Brand with Oscar®-winning actress Helen Mirren, in roles based on the 1981 performances of Dudley Moore as Arthur, and Sir John Gielgud as his strait-laced butler.

Russell and Helen bring their own style and perspective to these two characters in a way that makes you feel you’re seeing old friends in a different light,” states director Jason Winer. “If there’s one actor on the planet who can re-invent this role for a new generation, it’s Russell Brand. And with Hobson as a nanny, played by Helen Mirren, instead of a butler, the idea of the two of them together was irresistible.”

Arthur’s the man-child to end all man-children,” describes Mirren, whose Hobson is a point of flawless composure amidst the endless whirling party that defines Arthur’s existence as the story opens. But that party could soon be over as he faces a momentous choice between the two young women in his life.

You can’t have Arthur without Hobson there to smack him on the head now and then and say, ‘What’s wrong with you?,’” adds producer Larry Brezner.

Since his father died young and his mother is too busy running the business, Hobson is the only real family he’s ever known. She’s his ballast, his rock,” says producer Kevin McCormick. “Strict and formal, she nevertheless adores him and always tells him he can achieve anything he wants - although, lately, she has begun to wonder if he will ever meet that potential.

In concert with this, what Helen Mirren particularly appreciated about the Hobson role was that, unlike the others in Arthur’s life, “Hobson is not a simple enabler. She’s a strong character. She doesn’t so much stand up to him, because technically he is her employer, but she’s perfectly capable and unafraid of telling him he’s behaving like an idiot and she knows him well enough to send him up. It’s a rich, intense and complicated relationship; there is undeniably a great love there and a great depth of feeling.”

Says Winer, “Helen brings all her regal bearing to the role of the austere nanny but also a delightfully dry wit and comic timing that’s a real kick to watch. She and Russell had a great, playful chemistry together that was not only perfect for the movie but kept going off-camera, which helped to keep all of us entertained.”

Russell is so incredibly inventive and energetic, just a constant flow of imagination. It’s extraordinary,” she says.

Working with Helen is inspiring, interesting, a real honor,” Brand responds. “She’s proper but also funny, quirky and totally charming. All in all, I had a great time on this film. I got to kiss Jennifer Garner, I got to kiss Greta Gerwig and I got to kiss Helen Mirren…. Granted, that last one wasn’t in the script.”

Opening soon across the Philippines, “Arthur” will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

2NE1 Manila Concert Rescheduled To June 4, 2011

The concert of popular K-pop girl group 2NE1 at the Araneta Coliseum will be held on June 4, according to the organizer instead of May 15 as previously announced.

Dubbed as "2NE1: The Party in Manila!" is Pulp Live Productions' “last hoorah before school starts” according to Happee Sy.

The delay in the concert was due to 2NE1’s comeback to the K-pop scene this April.

In addition to preparing for their Manila concert and new album, 2NE1 will be busy with their other activities.

2NE1 has signed up for a collaborative project with Adidas Originals in South Korea.

Last year, Adidas Originals designer Jeremy Scott made clothes for 2NE1 in time for the release of the girl group’s album.

Glee "Born This Way" Episode on April 26 Extended To 90-Minutes

Michael Ausiello reports that Glee Season 2 "Born This Way" will likely be expanded to 90 minutes instead of the usual 60 minutes.

Glee‘s April 26 outing is so big that even its usual 60-minute time slot can’t contain it. Sources confirm to me exclusively that the episode is jam-packed with good stuff to the point that Fox will likely expand it to 90 minutes.Coincidentally, the unorthodox installment features the music of an artist who knows a thing or two about breaking the rules: Lady Gaga. While not another tribute outing, the episode’s theme of self-acceptance was inspired by the singer’s runaway hit “Born this Way.” In fact, the title of the episode is “Born This Way” and it concludes with a rousing performance of the No. 1 smash.

Before that, though, the kids grapple with their own body image issues. For example, Lauren (Ashley Fink) runs for prom queen, in so doing challenging the traditional notion of what a pageant princess looks like. Rachel (Lea Michele), meanwhile, considers getting a nose job.

While this sounds interesting, I’m sure we all just want to know what’s going to happen with Karofsky. What do you guys think?"

TV5: No Minors on All Game Shows and Contests....For The Meantime

In an advisory sent to Showbiznest earlier tonight, TV5 said they will enforced "stricter guidelines on the appearance and performance of minors, particularly children, on all TV5 programs.

This decision is TV5's reaction to an ongoing probe of the Commission on Human Rights and the Movies and Television Review and Classification Board and a complaint from the Department of Social Welfare and Development on the alleged maltreatment of "Jan-Jan Suan" - a six-year-old contestant in the daily primetime program "Willing Willie."

In addition, the Kapatid network said all auditions and complaints regarding the stations programs will be supervised by TV5 Chief Legal Counsel Christine Ona as the network's Ombudsman.

Kim Atienza Leads Fight Against Climate Change in "Krusada"

Filipinos all over the country turned their lights off last March 26 to join the rest of the world in observing the annual Earth Hour, but the fight against climate change continues for each one of us.

This Thursday, March 31, in “Krusada,” award-winning “Matanglawin” anchor Kim Atienza will stand up for the environment by encouraging each individual to help save our environment in their own little way.

The world is slowly dying due to climate change and this is evident with the unusual rise in temperature felt throughout the world, as well as the string of natural disasters that have devastated mankind recently.

Kuya Kim will take us to Barangay Pugad in Bulacan, which is mostly underwater now. See the loss, difficulties and dangers families there have to face due to climate change. He will also demonstrate a way to lessen the effects of climate change from our own homes.

Listen, take part, and be one with Kim Atienza in moving and working towards rejuvenating the environment this Thursday, March 31, in “Krusada,” after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN.

Because it takes more than words to make a stand.
