'Glee' Cast Covers Emmy Magazine Issue No. 3

The cast of highest rating Fox series Glee covers Emmy® Magazine Issue No. 3, which is also the magazine's "For Your Consideration" issue.


The feature includes interviews with stars Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison, Jane Lynch, Dianna Agron, Cory Monteith, Jayma Mays, Chris Colfer, Kevin McHale, Mark Salling, Amber Riley, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jenna Ushkowitz, as well as creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy.


Highlights from the "Glee' cover story include:

"I don’t have anything to say to the judges. I let my work speak for itself." – Amber Riley, who was ousted from "American Idol" after her first audition, about not holding a grudge against Simon Cowell and crew.

"There’s a real person beneath the bravado who wants to be accepted and loved although she would never show that. In her narcissistic view of the world, everything’s about one-upping and victory. I had an acting teacher in college we called the Dragon Lady. She taught through shame and humiliation, and when she walked down the hall, people would part like the Red Sea." – Jane Lynch on her character Sue Sylvester.

"The minute I read Rachel Berry, I felt such a connection to her. Her drive and passion for singing and performing – that’s my therapy in life. It helps me learn who I am. Rachel’s on that same journey." – Lea Michele who, after moving executives to tears during her audition, was offered the role of Rachel Berry on the spot.

"I'd drive around in my Honda Civic visiting 7-Elevens. I'd pretend I was looking for a certain product, quiz the clerks and, depending on their performance, reward them with cash prizes. It wasn't a bad way to earn a paycheck." – Cory Monteith on his pre-Glee job as a secret shopper in Vancouver.

"Being told to dance one of the most iconic dances in pop-culture when you can barely tap your shoes? Yes I was proud of myself." – Chris Colfer on mastering Beyonce's "Single Ladies" routine which he considers his biggest achievement.

Glee creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy discusses the show being a celebration of the underdog in us all – "The message is about inclusion. The show's about having a voice, and singing loud and proud. It’s about the power of possibility." On his coup in acquiring full access to Madonna's catalogue for one of the season's most acclaimed episodes. – "I just wrote her a letter. She never asked to see a script or know what the episode was about. She never said 'You cannot use this,' or 'You will use that.' She just said 'Yes.'"
