QC Court Junks Willie Revillame's Appeal to Dismiss P486M Counter Suit by ABS-CBN

A Quezon City court recently denied TV host Willie Revillame’s motion to dismiss the P486 million counter suit filed against him by ABS-CBN.

Judge Luisito Cortez of the Regional Trial Court Branch 84 ordered Revillame to post a bond of nearly P427 million not later than Oct 27, which will answer for any damage ABS-CBN may have suffered with the airing of Revillame’s new show "Willing Willie."

The said game-variety show on TV5 premiered yesterday (Oct 22) after the court denied ABS-CBN's request for a temporary restraining order to stop it from airing.

In its official statement, ABS-CBN expressed its disappointment over the court’s decision not to grant a TRO.

"What Willie did is a violation of the contract he signed with ABS-CBN, which will expire next year. ABS-CBN only wishes that Willie fulfills his obligations under the contract. Honoring one’s contract is important," it said.

"We are disappointed that no TRO was granted vs Willie. Let us not forget that the root cause of all these issues is Willie’s disrespectful behavior and threat vs ABS-CBN management. We believe that justice will prevail and the truth will come out. We will continue to fight for our rights."

ABS-CBN continues to lead in the national TV ratings even on weekends despite claims by other networks. Based on the national TV ratings data by Kantar Media, ABS-CBN remains the undisputed leader on weekend programming beating all other shows. "Wansapanataym," "Maalaala Mo Kaya," and "TV Patrol Weekend" were among its top-raters and no other weekend programs from GMA7 and TV5 made it to the overall top 20 chart.

ABS-CBN is launching several new programs in the coming weeks such as "Juanita Banana" topbilled by Miss Philippines-Universe 2009 Bianca Manalo and "Mara Clara" starring rising teen actresses Kathryn Bernardo and Julia Montes.

In September 2010, ABS-CBN hit a national average audience share of 40%, trumping second placer GMA Network’s 34% share, according to data from global media specialist Kantar Media.
