Kuya Kim Swims With Butandings in 'Matanglawin'

Kim Atienza travels to Bicolandia to search for the biggest fish in the world as part of the special 3rd anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN’s multi-awarded educational program “Matanglawin.”

Kuya Kim will face the deep waters and swim with the whale sharks or locally called the butandings. He will also challenge Bicol’s sili king Bert Gonzales as in munching one kilo of hot chilis.

“I have lots of stories to tell my children and grand children with all my experiences in Matanglawin. It’s as if things went fast forward in three years with all the things that I’ve done,” Kuya Kim said.

He also shared that time flies so fast because he feels that “Matanglawin” is still a new show even after producing 155 episodes.

It’s no wonder that the show and its host have already garnered more than 40 awards from respected award giving bodies such as PMPC Star Awards, Anak TV, and the National Council for Children’s Television (NCCT)-DepEd that recognized it as the Most Child-Friendly Educational Program.

It’s really heart-warming whenever Matanglawin receives an award especially if it’s from the different schools around the Philippines because you’ll feel that the youth appreciate us and they patronize our program,” he said.

The show also has an advocacy project called It’s Cool to B-in that gives away biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste bins to different schools while Kuya Kim encourages the students to actively participate in waste segregation.

Because of his advocacy for the environment, Kuya Kim was appointed by the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau or PAWB as Ambassador of the 2010 International Year of Biodiversity and by the Philippine Eagle Foundation as the first National Ambassador for Philippine Eagles last year.

And for Kuya Kim, every anniversary is a chance for a new beginning because there are more adventures in store for him and the avid viewers of “Matanglawin”.

Knowledge is really infinite. In the coming episodes, the approach will be more creative and bolder. We will venture to farther places, and we will provide information in a livelier way.”

Don’t miss this exciting two-part anniversary special of “Matanglawin” this April 3 and 10, 9:30 AM on ABS-CBN.
