Members of the Philippine Azkals were greeted with cheers during a thanksgiving party thrown for them recently by ABS-CBN in the network’s Restaurant 9501.
Among those who personally congratulated the team, which advanced to the AFC Challenge Cup 2012 after a successful stint in Myanmar, were ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio Lopez III, ABS-CBN President Charo Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN Head of Manila Radio Division and Sports Peter Musngi, ABS-CBN Head of News and Current Affairs Ging Reyes, and ABS-CBN Network Ombudsman Justice Jose Vitug.
Lopez, a known sports fan, told the team “ABS-CBN will always be behind you sa hirap at ginhawa.”
ABS-CBN was able to air the Azkals’ matches in Myanmar over Studio 23 and Balls Channel recently after the ABS-CBN Sports and the Philippine Football Federation acquired the exclusive airing rights for these despite restrictions imposed by the host country.
