Two Pinays Killed in Japan Earthquake; Japan Hits By Strong Earthquakes Anew


Manolo Manuel Lopez, Philippine Ambassador to Japan, has told ABS-CBN today that two Filipinos were killed in the tsunami caused by 8.9 magnitude earthquake that hits Japan last March 11. The two were identified as Grace Agnes Oprecio-Hiruta, 45, from Paranaque City, and her 12-year-old daughter Maria Oprecio-Hiruta as confirmed by Oprecio-Hiruta’s Japanese husband.

Their bodies were found 8 days after the tsunami in Iwaki City in Fukushima.

Aside from mother and daughter Grace and Maria, 40 Pinoys are still unaccounted for as of this writing.

Meanwhile, Japan was hit again by two earthquakes today, March 22, 2011 with a magnitude of 6.6 according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

The earthquake occurred twice off the east coast of Honshu, Japan. The first one happened at 05:18 PM then another one has hit after two hours.

However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued statement that a destructive pacific-wide tsunami is not expected.

As of 6:52 a.m. today, there are already 9,080 people killed and more than 13,000 missing according to figure released by CNN.
