Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar Earthquakes - March 24, 2011


A two 6.9 magnitude earthquakes recently hit Myanmar which borders North Thailand, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The earthquake was inland and the point of origin was deep below the Earth’s surface.

The earthquake struck seconds apart at 1355 GMT and were centered 69 miles north of the Thai town of Chiang Rai.

The first one was very shallow, at a depth of 6.2 miles, while the second one was deeper at 142.5 miles.

Sources said that the tremors were also felt in Bangkok and as far away as Laos and Vietnam capital of Hanoi.

There was no report yet as to the extent of damage and casualties of the earthquake from those areas.
